The foundation
Connecting education, health and society
We were founded to connect health training and research with education and social services. Our founding purposes place people, families and their communities at the centre of care.
People and families
A biopsychosocial approach to long-term conditions, with particular consideration for families and disadvantaged groups.
Technology with purpose
New technologies applied to education and health-related social services.

Technology that helps people live better
We are preparing a new phase of the Foundation, bringing together its experience in health education and self-management with person-centred digital tools and artificial intelligence. Our aim is for technology to simplify life, strengthen autonomy and support the work of professionals, families and communities.
Self-management and health
Health education, self-management support and tools that help people understand, decide and follow wellbeing plans with greater autonomy.
Responsible AI and technology
Accessible, conversational, outcome-oriented prototypes, with privacy safeguards and human oversight when decisions require it.
International collaboration
A network coordinated from Spain to collaborate with universities, professionals, social organisations and communities in different countries.
International collaboration is a development priority of the Foundation; this website does not state that the Foundation currently has branches or subsidiary entities outside Spain.

A European track record in self-care
2012–2015 · Completed project
EU-WISE
The foundation participated in this European project on self-care support for people with long-term conditions, diabetes and heart disease. The project adopted a whole-system approach.
Funded by the European Union’s Seventh Framework Programme and coordinated by the University of Southampton, EU-WISE brought together universities and organisations from several countries.
The final report lists the foundation as a project partner and Manuel Serrano Gil as its president (p. 65). It also documents the regional workshop organised in Murcia in October 2015 (p. 59).
